GENERAL
Cross-breeding programme has been taken
up on large scale in the State. But success of this programme depends upon
the balanced feeding of animals. Keeping this in view, fodder development
programme has been made an integral part of livestock development. The work
done during the year 2007- 08 is given below.
1.Livestock Farms/Semen Banks
To make available
the green fodder all the year around to the livestock kept at the Livestock
farms and Semen Banks, an area of 1435 acres was brought under fodder
cultivation. 1,49,765 Qtls green fodder was produced, Beside this 1902.68
Qtls fodder seeds of various crops were also produced. The production and
utilization report of fodder at the various farms has been given below :

Apart from meeting the requirement
of animals maintained at the farms, 13020 Qtls green fodder was sold in the
market and Rs. 5,33,689/- were deposited in the receipt head of the
department. In addition 1600 qtls fodder seed were supplied to the farmers
and Rs.20.92 lac were deposited in a receipt head.The comparison of progress
made during 2007-08 with the last two years is given below:
