Sheep
and wool development programme remained in progress during the year under
report. In order to increase the wool yield of local sheep and to improve
the mutton type sheep, the department had launched a cross breeding
programme in sheep.The exotic breeds ie. Corriedale , Poldor set and
Rambouillet are used for cross breeding. For the production of pure bred
rams, a Sheep Breeding farm is functioning at Mattewara, District Ludhiana
during the year under report.
SHEEP BREEDING FARM MATTEWARA, DISTRICT LUDHIANA:--
Sheep breeding farm Mattewara was set up during the year 1968-69. At this
farm, sheep of Exotic breed are maintained for the production of exotic
rams.

During the year under report, 363
Lambs were born as against 312 lambs and 235 lambs born during the year
2006-2007 and 2005-2006 respectively.

SALE / AUCTION
During the year under report, 77 Lambs / Culled sheep were sold as against
161 Lambs/culled sheep and 134 Lambs/ culled sheep sold during the year
2006-2007 and 2005-2006 respectively.

Shearing of sheep is done twice in a year. Ist in
the month of September / October and 2nd in the month of
